Okay guys, I definitely need to relax. I just watched the Steeler game and my stress level was to the max! My heart is still racing and now I have to try to go to sleep. It is amazing how a game of football can affect our ability to relax and control our emotions. i can't imagine how professional and high level amateur athletes can do it. I would drop the ball without even having to play in the game.
Hi Carol,
ReplyDeleteThere are several things you can do. You can try some of the relaxation audios that we have in class. You can drink some chamomile tea, that really helps. Also, the best thing to do is lie down in quiet room, with no noise and low ligths and either play some soft music or no sound. Do this with the Crime of the Century audio. It should really help you.
Take care and congrats!
Karin
Hey Carol,

When I start feeling overwhelmed with all the things I have to do in a day, first I do yoga. Then, when you're ready, start with one thing and only focus on that one thing. Don't think about ALL the things you have to do, just one. Complete it. Move on. It sounds simple but often time the distracted mind wanders so it's really important to focus. As Karin mentioned, meditation helps. It teaches us to guide our mind back to the task at hand. When you read, really read. When you're writing, really write. Each thing we do deserves our full attention. Soon, you'll notice you are caught up. I hope this helps.
Hi Carol - I would have been there right beside you but I had another engagement yesterday afternoon. I got to watch the Green Bay / Chicago game and was very disappointed that Chicago lost. Not that they are a particularly favorite team of mine, but just because I'm not a Green Bay fan. Hope you're feeling much better today.

Thanks for all of your helpful tips. i have now reqrouped from the Steeler game, but I have had a stressful day. I have a to-do-list that is a mile long and I haven't even got half way through it. Here is my problem. I am leaving tomorrow afternoon for two days. I then will be back on Friday and I will leave again on Monday. The problem is that I just found out that a course for work that I am taking has been moved up a week. This means that when I leave on Monday, I will not be home for four weeks! I know that when I am in Europe that my free time is limited. I want to get ahead on some of my class work, but this means that I need to print out everything before I leave. I am just stressing for no reason. I know that I have three days this week to do it, but I don't like to leave everything go until the last minute. Relaxation tape... HERE I COME!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Carol, I know exactly what you mean. Excitement can play havoc on the body too. Watching a game may be a form of eustress...you can vent and express yourself in a healthy outlet. But some sports fans take it to the limit if "their" team is playing poorly. I use to be like the later. Today, a good game helps me to relax. A little rooting and a little sighing and then it is a done deal. No more caveman scenarios for me. It is best to relax and enjoy the game...one of life's little pleasures. Take care.
ReplyDeleteLOL. Howell, I am from Pittsburgh. We all have the caveman attitude here! I only get this way while watching the Steelers or my son play. Any other game does not have any affect on me at all. I don't even get upset at my son's games (only when he is carrying the ball). At that point, I feel stress because I want him to do well. The funny thing is that he usually does very well, but I still get stressed!
